REGULATION
1 - This Competition is a tribute to a great and sensitive Italian musician prematurely passed away: the cellist Arturo Bonucci (1954-2002)
2 - This Competition constitutes an independent Section of the already existing “Sabina in Musica - Festival d’Autunno"
3 - The Competition is open to the citizens of European Nations, , and to the extra-european musicians living in one of the european nations for study reasons. These are required to enclose to the application form their documentation certifying their residential status
The competition is open to cellists born after January 1st, 1971.
4 - The Competition will be held in the town of Magliano Sabina, in the “Manlio” Theatre, from October 18 to 23, 2004. The round schedule will be communicated to the applicants in advance. The Contestants are required to show an ID (Identity) document at the beginning of their first round, according to the time table.
5 - The Competition is divided in three rounds:
First round - private - (solo cello)
A) One Suite by Bach
B) One Sonata to be chosen among: Kodaly (op. 8), Hindemith (Sonata for solo cello)
Max Reger (one of the three Suites), Ligeti (Sonata for solo cello)
Second round - public - (cello and piano)
A) One Sonata to be chosen among: Beethoven (op. 5 no. 2, op. 69, op. 102 no.1, op. 102 no. 2),
Brahms (op. 38, op. 99), Schubert (Arpeggione), Chopin, Grieg (d min.), Saint-Saens (c min.)
B) One Sonata to be chosen among: Schostakowitsch, Strauss, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Kodaly (op. 4), Prokoviev, Kabalewsky, Britten,
Hindemith (op. 11 n. 3), Martucci, Martinu (Variations on a Theme by Rossini).*
* This work must be choosen by those contestants who want to participate to the assignement of the Special Prize “Radu Aldulescu” .
Final round - public - (cello and orchestra)
A) Tschajkowskij: Variations on a rococo theme op. 33
B) Haydn: Concerto in C Major or Concerto in D Major (please specify the chosen revision and
edition for the Concerto in D Maj.)
In all rounds the contestants will perform one composition from group A and one from group B.
6 - Contestants are required to perform at least the final round by memory.
7 - The Jury has the authority to:
-listen partially to the performances during the first and second round
-interrupt the performances if necessary during the first and second round.
8 - A pianist is available on request of the contestants.
9 - Prizes
- First prize (no ex aequo is possible): € 3000 and 2 concerts offered by important Italian Music Societies
- Second prize: € 1500
- Third prize € 750
- The special
Prize “Radu Aldulescu” (€ 750), offered by M. Aldulescu, will be assigned by
the Jury to the contestant who gave the best interpretation of the Variations
on a Theme by Rossini by B. Martinu in the second round
- The special Prize “Attilio Padroni” (€ 300), offered by M. Umberto Padroni, will be assigned by the Jury to a particularly deserving contestant who passed the first selection.
10 - The decisions of the Jury are unquestionable
11 - The Jury has the authority not to assign one or more of the prizes.
12 - The Jury will be composed by renowned Italian and foreign musicians.
The Music Director of the Competition is entitled to participate to the jury works, with no right of vote.
13 - Relatives of the jury members are not allowed to participate to the competition.
A member of the jury is not allowed to vote for a contestant with whom he has ever had didactic relationship.
14 - The participation fee of € 120 is to be sent to:
